Brief about Ayurvedic Medicine


Ayurveda treatment is the oldest healing technique that has been in practice from around 5000 years ago. The description of the word ‘Ayurveda’ is, ‘Ayu’ refers to life or lifespan and the term ‘Veda’ refers to knowledge or the science of life. According to the Hindu Vedas, Ayurveda is a gift of God to the mankind which came into existence through the saints and sages through the deep meditation. One of the great sages, named Veda Vyasa, was considered to have written the Vedas for the first time in the history. These Vedas were famous because it covered the topics of health and which also provides solutions of various diseases by the use of herbs and shrubs.

Generally, the Vedas were classified into four types, namely, Rig, Sama, Yajur and Atharva Veda. This Atharva Veda was termed as Ayurveda which means the 'The Science of Life’. In the beginning of all this, the Ayurveda Brahmins discovered the principle of disease mental health & physical health healing and they then regarded this as physicians. However, as the days passed by, more and more castes learned this art of curing and they then named this as ‘Vaidya’.
